SPEED Auxiliary Slot - page 2

SPEED Auxiliary Slot Mechanics
The SPEED Auxiliary Slot is commonly used to design very effective force systems for correction of challenging
malalignment. Light flexible archwires (e.g. .014”- .016”) can be easily engaged through the auxiliary slot to assist in a wide
range of clinical situations. In some clinical cases, SPEED’s auxiliary slot permits the clinician to achieve two treatment
objectives simultaneously, as illustrated in the example below and the fully documented case to follow.
The initial wires, .016”, and then .020” (6 weeks later), were reinforced
with stainless steel tubing. An .020” Nickel Titanium lower arch (7 weeks
later) was then inserted with a light-force compression spring between
the laterals to create enough space for advancement of the lower
central incisors into alignment.
After 6 weeks, an .020” Supercable was inserted without any concern
that the overall arch formwill be adversely affected.
SPEED hooks in the canine bracket auxiliary slots were used for the
application of 3 - 3 elastics to keep spaces from opening.

A length of .016” Supercable was then threaded through the auxiliary
slots of the lateral incisor and canine brackets and inserted into the
archwire slots of the central incisor brackets for advancement and
intrusion without disrupting the favorable alignment and arch form
which had been achieved with previous archwires.
