By employing a resilient Super-Elastic Spring Clip to entrap and seat the archwire, SPEED provides a constant corrective force which will not degrade with time. The mutual action of the SPEED Spring Clip and archwire extends the range of appliance activation which can result in a reduction of both patient visits and treatment duration. Rotation and Tip Control SPEED’s Spring Clip is activated upon archwire engagement. Once deflected by the archwire, the SPEED Spring Clip provides corrective forces which ensure “full” tip and rotational correction. Any subsequent deviation from this ideal is corrected through the reactivation of SPEED’s unique homing action. Torque Control SPEED’s edgewise slot will accommodate square, rectangular, or SPEED Wires for full torque control. SPEED Wires, available in Nickel Titanium and Stainless Steel, feature a round-rectangular profile. The unique shape of this archwire enhances cooperation between SPEED Brackets and archwire ensuring full expression of built-in torque. Torque: (+) Lingual Root Torque (–) Buccal Root Torque Angulation (Tip) Standard Tip angles are built into every SPEED attachment. Minor changes in angulation which are sometimes necessary can be achieved by rotating the bracket on the tooth. Because of the size of the SPEED Bracket there is little sacrifice in intimacy of fit. Angulation: (+) Distal Root Tip In-Out SPEED is a fully pre-adjusted appliance. Each bracket has a specific base adapter which provides its corresponding tooth with both an angular and translational offset. The result - a more smoothly contoured finishing arch. The SPEED Mushroom Hook™ and SPEED Mini-Mushroom Hook™ The SPEED Mushroom Hook™ is a miniaturized integral hook. It is available on all SPEED Brackets. SPEED Micro-Retentive Mesh™ All SPEED attachments feature Micro-Retentive Mesh™ bonding bases. SPEED’s unique Micro-Retentive Mesh™ has been tested in large scale clinical studies since 1991. The results are a reduction in bond failures of 50%, and a 200% increase in bond strength in laboratory tests. SPEED Micro-Retentive Mesh™ bonding bases are dull in appearance but require no special bonding technique or adhesives. Remember when bonding SPEED attachments: Each bracket base is carefully contoured to precisely mirror the anatomy of its corresponding tooth. For this reason, SPEED attachments are not interchangeable. When bonding SPEED attachments, no special bonding technique or adhesive is required. SPEED attachments may be bonded using the direct or indirect technique with equal effectiveness. Similarly, the appliance may be bonded using any one of a variety of adhesive types: • Paste to Paste • No-Mix • Light Activated • Easily accessed by all patients • Smoothly contoured for patient comfort • Easily grasps and securely holds all elastics • Will not interfere with Spring Clip opening • Half the size of conventional integral hooks • Designed to be bent if required SPEED Mushroom Hook™ for posterior elastics Bond Failures SPEED Mini-Mushroom Hook™ for anterior elastics Normal Mesh SPEED System™ Micro-Retentive Mesh +ve -ve Hespeler Orthodontics | How The SPEED Appliance Works

The built-in distal off-set slightly rotates the upper first molars thereby decreasing the mesio-distal diameter of the molars. This permits correct space consolidation. “ERX” - Upper First Molar Brackets These brackets are designed to permit extraction space closure where extractions occur solely in the maxillary arch. A lack of distal off-set slightly de-rotates the upper first molars thereby increasing the mesio-distal diameter of the molars. This permits correct space consolidation. ER and ERX Upper First Molar Brackets SPEED ER and ERX Upper First Molar Brackets feature an elongated bonding base which mirrors the complex buccal curvature of the upper first molar. The bracket carries the designation ‘ER’ for “Enhanced Retention”. These unique attachments: • Eliminate the need for molar bands • Impart precise 3-dimensional molar control due to the action of the SPEED Spring Clip • Permit use of compression coil due to the wide interbracket span created between attachments • Significantly reduce bond failures due to the large pad size and precise anatomical fit In cases where the roots of the laterals are positioned far lingually, special lateral brackets may be used. These special lateral brackets feature extra built-in labial root torque for rapid root positioning and slight overcorrection for retention. Soldered hooks offer strength and rigidity, at the expense of convenience and time. Crimpable hooks install quickly, but can migrate under orthodontic traction, costing valuable treatment time. Both options present a number of compromises. The Solution - Metallurgic Elasticity Trillium Compression Hooks are slightly undersized relative to their corresponding wire. Made of Nickel Titanium, Trillium Compression Hooks deflect elastically around the wire during installation. Once installed, the Super Elastic Trillium Compression Hook grips tight, applying a compressive force to the archwire virtually eliminating the possibility of hook migration. The Tightest Grip Proven performance with over 3 years of clinical testing, Trillium Compression Hooks provide dramatically more resistance to dislodgement than Crimpable Hooks. Comfort Benefits of SPEED Braces: SPEED Braces are miniaturized. SPEED’s reduced size and height minimizes lip and cheek irritation. In addition, their springs apply a continuous gentle force. This gentle force means less discomfort and pain throughout your treatment. Esthetic SPEED Braces are up to 3 times smaller than standard braces and have a small jewellike appearance. They won’t discolor like “clear” braces or the colored elastics found on standard braces. This eliminates the “railroad track” look that many people considering orthodontic treatment find unacceptable. SPEED Braces are up to 3 times smaller than standard braces SPEED Metal Clear *SPEED often reduces treatment time compared to other systems Standard Braces SPEED Braces The progressive, esthetic orthodontic appliance that is up to 3 times smaller than standard braces. Treatment Time SPEED Braces are more hygienic. Their small size and absence of “tiewings” (which often catch and trap food) make them easier to clean. It is very important to maintain good oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment. It is much easier to brush and clean the miniaturized and rounded surfaces of SPEED Braces. Hygienic Efficient Only SPEED Braces store energy. Recent advances in manufacturing technology and orthodontic appliance design have resulted in the development of a sophisticated, miniaturized spring loaded brace that actually “stores” energy. The spring is activated only when the tooth is not in its correct position, which we determine during your diagnosis and treatment planning. With cooperation, normal orthodontic treatment time of two years or more will often be reduced by SPEED Braces. This is due to the continuous light force provided by the SPEED Brace’s spring clip. This feature also reduces frictional drag on the arch wire, enabling the teeth to move more rapidly. We will be happy to review the various types of orthodontic appliances available, and recommend which would be best for you during your consultation. Detailed information on diagnosis, treatment planning and projected length of treatment will also be discussed at this time. For more information: www.SPEEDSystem.com Only SPEED Braces store energy.
