Root Resorption Study

Root Resorption Study

Two independent studies have been conducted to examine the degree of root resorption in patients treated with the SPEED System.

With respect to the first study, Dr. Hanson notes the following:

In a random sample of 20 patients who were at or nearing completion of their treatment in October 1991, the following was recorded:
• No significant root resorption.
• Surprisingly, six of the patients had impacted teeth at the beginning of treatment, which are below.

This sample was assembled at the request of Professor Donald Woodside who along with Professor
Carl-Magnus Forsberg and Drs. Marielle Flannelly and Darrel Kemp conducted a careful examination of all the records. They were unanimous in concluding that my light-force technique greatly reduces the risk of root resorption.

It should be noted that all the patients in this sample represent the first 20 patients at or near completion who appeared at our office starting at the time of Dr. Woodside's unanticipated request.

Six of the Cases included in this study are shown below.

Case #6

Two independent studies have been conducted to examine the degree of root resorption in patients treated with the SPEED System. The second study, conducted by Dr. M. Blake, Dr. D. G. Woodside and Dr. M. J. Pharoah was published in the July/95 American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and is summarized as follows:

A radiographic comparison of apical root resorption after orthodontic treatment with edgewise and SPEED appliances.

We accept the null hypothesis that there is no statistically significant difference in the apical root resorption seen, after orthodontic treatment with the edgewise straight wire and SPEED brackets.
